Hotel Presidente

Central Valley & Mountains

Rating: Mid-range

Hotel Presidente overview

This contemporary hotel is something of a local icon, and a great base for exploring the city. There’s a lovely, elegantly industrial yet boutique feel to the place, and the staff know a lot about the city and are endlessly helpful. The thoughtful decor includes antique sewing machines, mementos of the family's links with the clothing and fashion industries, while the exterior is a riot of colour and expressionist-inspired art.

Attractions such as key shopping areas, museums, craft markets, the cathedral and the city’s beautiful, bird-filled parks are all close at hand – generally within walking distance. Just step out of the door and you’re on the vibrant Central Avenue Pedestrian Boulevard, while many national parks and beaches are within driving distance.

Azotea Calle 7 restaurant-cum-cocktail bar and terrace on the 4th floor offers wonderful views of the National Theatre, Soledad Church and the city skyline as well as the mountains beyond, and is a fantastic place to enjoy a drink and a plate of tapas while you plan your next activities and watch the sunset.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, there is free wi-fi so you can catch up on your emails, and the breakfast buffets, particularly the made-to-order omelettes, are famously good. We particularly like the fact that the hotel has a 4 leaf sustainable tourism rating.

Mrs. Jacqueline Green (26/05/2018)

"Comfortable, good breakfast, slightly noisy at night. "

Ms Clair Cullinan
"The staff seemed nice and the room was good. It was a fantastic location right In the middle of San Jose and it was really near all the attractions. The food was nice as well."
Mr. Raymond Avery
"Large, comfortable and clean rooms. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast but evening menu basic and limited; however plenty of local restaurants in the immediate area. Good hotel for its purpose, i.e. transfer hotel. Centre of San Jose which, for us was preferable to some of the plusher ones on the outskirts. Meant we could spend a few hour exploring the commercial centre of San Jose."
Mr. John Peter Kerr (09/12/2017)
"From the very friendly staff to the rooftop restaurant and bar as the sun was setting . Awesome hotel and staff with the best breakfast."
Mrs. Deirdre Devine
"The personnel were polite and the room was clean and functional. Only water was provided in our room. The rooftop bar was friendly and the food nice. Breakfast was brilliant. Although the hotel itself was good, the location was awful. We felt uncomfortable walking around the streets and there was nowhere to eat (that we could find) which meant to had to eat at the hotel. The initial transfer to the hotel from the airport took over 2 hours in awful traffic because we were dropping off at different hotels and seemed to spend an interminable time at the same roundabout. The same journey took only half an hour in reverse. As there was nothing in central San Jose for us, we would have been happy staying in a hotel closer to the airport."
