Hotel Capitan Suizo

The North West

Rating: Mid-range

Hotel Capitan Suizo overview

This Swiss-owned hotel is on Playa Tamarindo on Costa Rica's north Pacific coast. The many trees provide shade from the sun's heat and shelter birds, monkeys and squirrels. You'll also see geckos, anteaters, porcupines and armadillos as you stroll through the gardens, which back on to forest.

Guest rooms and bungalows have views of the gardens and ocean beyond, and each has a balcony or deck where you can relax in private. Inside there's a sitting area and modern bathroom, tea and coffee maker, fridge, safe, phone, radio and WiFi internet access. High ceilings add to the sense of space and sliding glass doors admit lots of daylight. There is one 4-bedroom suite accommodating up to 8, so ideal for a large family or group of friends.

There is a large outdoor pool, as well as the sea, for swimming, and water-sports are available nearby including surfing and kayaking. The long beach is perfect for barefoot walks, and there are plenty of chairs, loungers and hammocks for relaxation. The Aromas del Mar Spa offers soothing and pampering massages within sight of the ocean.

The open air restaurant is right by the beach, and serves Costa Rican and international dishes, and dinners are eaten by romantic candlelight. If you're here on a Friday you'll be able to enjoy the weekly barbecue, a popular tradition featuring local music and dance.

Mrs. Julie Booth

"This was the best hotel in terms of food and restaurant service. Max the head waiter was amazing! Really lovely friendly hotel and good location."

Jim King
"This was our final hotel and the choice couldn't have been better. Ten minutes walk to the town which had great bars shops and restaurants, the rooms, pool and gardens are perfect and the adjoining beach offers some of the best surfing in CR."
Mrs. Susan Breslin (09/03/2019)
"An excellent hotel to end our holiday . The suite, food and its situation were fantastic . Set in tree filled gardens, full of wild life, howler monkeys above our balcony . The gardens end at the beach, we couldn’t have asked for more."
Mr. Duncan Harriss (15/11/2018)
"The end of a wonderful holiday in this amazing oasis. Great staff, restaurant and pool. A perfect tropical beach hideaway. Lovely Langosta beach a short walk away"
Mrs. Kathryn Taylor (01/05/2019)
"We loved this hotel. Great location on the beach. Staff were exceptional in ensuring everything was ok on an ongoing basis ( management staff chatted to all guests casually during breakfast to tease out any niggles). We didn't have any! We had a ground flour room with private seating area outside. Gardens lovely and well maintained. Many resident animals and birds. -When the iguana gets in the pool everyone else gets out! Short walk on the beach or road into Tamarindo (cheap taxi at night) which we also loved. Many places to eat and the hotel staff were there with recommendations. Sea beautiful and warm. Waves great for body boarding or surfing. The hotel also has kayaks and a local island to paddle to. Would definitely recommend"
