Chayote Lodge

Central Valley & Mountains

Rating: Deluxe

Chayote Lodge overview

Inspired by the rich coffee culture of the region, each nook of the property has been well thought out and planned with careful attention to detail. The bungalows resemble the traditional Coffee Receiving Stations known locally as “Recibidores”. They are bright and airy, with contemporary modern décor, and the floor to ceiling windows allow you to enjoy the fantastic views over the valley. Relax on your modern balcony overlooking a private coffee garden surrounded by cloudforest.  From here the view of the morning sunrise over the Irazú Volcano will let the natural light fill your suite and awaken you gently to the beautiful surroundings.

The main building of the lodge houses a fusion cuisine restaurant, mixing local flavours with international dishes, a terrace café and a friendly bar where guests have the opportunity to mix with locals, chat and learn about their lives and traditions. The windows of the main building are also floor to ceiling maximising on the views. 4 of Costa Rica's volcanoes can be seen from here, and in the distance the Gulf of Nicoya. Part of the experience is just sitting and soaking up the scenery.

There is a range of activities to keep you occupied. There area guided walks in the private cloudforest reserve, enjoy a coffee tour and sample some excellent coffee. Enjoy birdwatching or go for something more fast paced such as horse riding or zip-lining through the canopy, a fantastic experience. Finish that off with a cooking class to master some local cuisine, perhaps with a twist. Each day, the experience of Chayote Lodge starts as the sun rises in the east, progresses across the sky during the day and finally settles with a beautiful sunset over the Pacific before it all starts again the next morning - it's a stunning place to spend some time soaking up the Costa Rica vibe.

Ms. Clare Thompson

"A fantastic first night stop. Views to die for. And the opportunity for short walks in the area to get aclimatised the next morning. Really pleasant staff"

Mrs. Sara Smith-Laing
"A nice hotel but not much to do here and slightly stuck in the middle of nowhere. However staff are super nice and the local dishes on the menu are delicious. Would recommend for one night as a stopover. "
Mr. Michael Benn
"Chayote Lodge was fabulous. Amazing rooms (although no hair dryer). Lovely balcony and views. Good for wildlife spotting in the trees. No blackout blinds. No AC but it wasn't needed. Food fresh and tasty, breakfast to order not a buffet. Restaurant and bar shut at 10 sharp though, not sure if this was seasonal. Jose our guide was really great. We hired him for a day and learned so much. "
Mr. James Kelly (02/01/2018)
"Probably the weakest of the places we stayed. A stunning setting but quite remote. it was a drive to everything other than a small local bar which was a walk through what was almost an industrial estate. Accommodation was good but fairly basic in some ways - no heating for example which would have been beneficial in January. The clue is probably in the word "lodge". Nevertheless worthwhile staying for a couple of nights to do the coffee tour etc which was excellent."
Stephen (22/02/2018)
"A fabulous lodge, with outstanding views, excellent food, and lovely staff."
