Chayote Lodge

Central Valley & Mountains

Rating: Mid-range

Chayote Lodge overview

Inspired by the rich coffee culture of the region, each nook of the property has been well thought out and planned with careful attention to detail. The bungalows resemble the traditional Coffee Receiving Stations known locally as "Recibidores". They are bright and airy, with contemporary modern decor, and the floor to ceiling windows allow you to enjoy the fantastic views over the valley. Relax on your modern balcony overlooking a private coffee garden surrounded by cloudforest. From here the view of the morning sunrise over the Irazu Volcano will let the natural light fill your suite and awaken you gently to the beautiful surroundings.

The main building of the lodge houses a fusion cuisine restaurant, mixing local flavours with international dishes, a terrace cafe and a friendly bar where guests have the opportunity to mix with locals, chat and learn about their lives and traditions. The windows of the main building are also floor to ceiling maximising on the views. 4 of Costa Rica's volcanoes can be seen from here, and in the distance the Gulf of Nicoya. Part of the experience is just sitting and soaking up the scenery.

There is a range of activities to keep you occupied. There area guided walks in the private cloud-forest reserve, enjoy a coffee tour and sample some excellent coffee. Enjoy bird-watching or go for something more fast paced such as horse riding or zip-lining through the canopy, a fantastic experience. Finish that off with a cooking class to master some local cuisine, perhaps with a twist. Each day, the experience of Chayote Lodge starts as the sun rises in the east, progresses across the sky during the day and finally settles with a beautiful sunset over the Pacific before it all starts again the next morning - it's a stunning place to spend some time soaking up the Costa Rica vibe.

Mr. David Jones (14/01/2020)

"We were blown away by the wonderful views when we arrived. Our lodge itself was great (again with terrific views). Staff very helpful. We were surprised to find for one night we were the only people there (apparently that is unusual and it was booked up later in the week). Pity there was no pool or plunge pool. That would be a real bonus as when the sun came out, it was very hot. Again, identical problems on the vegetarian meals front. No options on the menu. We had to negotiate with the catering team. And on the last day we ordered a vegetarian omelette and it came back with ham inside ! "

Ms. Susan Keates
"Views and coffee amazing. Food and setting made a relaxing end to the holiday. Ideal start or finish as handy to airport. Owner very friendly and helpful employing the same standard of staff."
Mr. Kenneth Webb
"This is ideal for a stopover prior to flying home. The views are stunning and the people could not have been more welcoming and helpful."
Mr. Vaughan Williams
"Unusual site. Lovely views from the room and the restaurant. A good base to explore the surrounding area, but not much to do at the Lodge itself."
Professor Brent Davies
"Our last night in Costa Rica. Great to be out of the city with such stunning views of the Central Valley truly breathtaking. Cool air after the heat was great. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. The room was large and very clean with panoramic view from the windows. Only downside they charged us for breakfast when is was supposed to be included!"
