Palo Verde National Park is a wetland sanctuary with excellent bird and wildlife viewing. This is best in the dry season, January to April, when there is little water and birds collect around the few full marshes and waterholes, making them easier to spot. There’s also less vegetation at this time to block the view. The park also has 75 species of mammals and the country’s largest population of jaguarundis, a small, brown wild cat.
