Txai Resort is a luxury eco resort on the Bahia coast. Stylish yet simple, an escape to Txai (pronounced ‘chai’) means relaxing on stunning coastline with gorgeous beaches, sipping cocktails by sparkling pools, dining on excellent cuisine, enjoying spa treatments, and generally having the time and space to forget the rest of the world for a while.
Set within 92 hectares of coconut groves and lush rainforest on the Cacao Coast about 1 hour’s flight south of Salvador. It has wonderful views of the beautiful beach and ocean and is a blend of rustic simplicity, style and luxury. If you fancy exploring the area this is a great place from which to venture into the rainforest, stroll along the beach and visit the town of Itacare, a 20 minute drive away.
There are 38 air-conditioned, en-suite rooms all offering simple but spacious accommodation. The bungalows (some with private plunge pools or jacuzzis) are dotted throughout the gardens to ensure privacy, and the standard rooms are in a 3-storey building near the pool.
The on-site facilities are extensive and you'll never be short of things to do. The resort has 5 pools, 3 restaurants and 4 bars. In addition there's a tennis court, games room and TV room.
There is an excellent spa at the top of the hill. It offers an extensive range of beauty treatments designed to promote physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. The spa menu includes massages, ayurvedic therapies, facials, manicures and pedicures. Sauna and steam room sessions are also available, as are yoga and meditation classes.

Location: About 1 hour’s flight (and a 6 hour drive) south of Salvador, on the Bahia coast.
Rooms: There are 38 suites, in several categories including superior and luxury apartments, superior, luxury and premium cottages. They are set throughout the grounds, some near the sea and others on the hill. All offer simple but spacious accommodation. They are air conditioned with a king-size bed with mosquito net, CD player and other amenities. Some bungalows have an outdoor whirlpool bath or plunge pool.
Activities: There are daily guided walks in the rainforest and on beach trails. You can also explore the area by mountain bike or go horse riding. Other activities available include surfing, canoeing, rafting and tennis - the resort has 2 tennis courts.
Facilities: There are 5 swimming pools. The main pool is 25 metres in length and has a shallow children's pool and sundeck with loungers and parasols. There are 2 living rooms in the colonial style mansion, where you can mingle and relax, maybe enjoy a DVD in the private cinema, watch television or check the internet. The hotel has a small boutique selling swimwear and holiday essentials. The resort has a gym. The Shamash Spa offers a wide range of beauty and therapeutic treatments.
Dining: You have a choice of dining options. The South Restaurant has been built a traditional Bahian style with a high thatched roof while the North Restaurant is set near the beach. Meals are mainly Brazilian and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. A couple of times a week fresh pizzas are baked in the large outdoor oven. There are 4 bars in the resort, one in each of the two living rooms and one each at the north and the south swimming pools.
Children: Children are very welcome at Txai. Babysitting services are available, as are cots, and extra beds can be put in the rooms. There is a children’s pool, and a children’s menu is available.
