14 days from £2855pp plus international flights.
From the excitement and buzz of Rio, to the heart of the Amazon with its abundant wildlife and on to the perfect island getaway, this holiday is a feast for the senses.
Spend three days exploring vibrant Rio de Janeiro, including a guided visit of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) and Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf Mountain). Then travel to the jungle city of Manaus, famous for its grand opera house and the 'Meeting of the Waters' where the Solimoes and Negro Rivers meet to form the Amazon.
From Manaus, enter the Amazon proper. It is a one hour flight to Tefe and a boat ride to Uakari Floating Lodge located in the Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve. The excursions depend on the season, with canoe excursions in the wet season through the flooded forest, and dry season excursions by canoe to explore channels, creeks and lakes, as well as forest hikes. There are also visits to local villages, evening presentations about the Reserve, and night hikes/canoe trips.
The wildlife is abundant, and it is a strange experience in the flooded season to paddle through the flooded forest and observe species such as sloths, Red howler monkeys and the endemic red-faced white Uakari monkey at close range, whilst pink river dolphins, manatees and caiman swim amongst the submerged trees.
Time to relax! You'll be whisked a world away, to the northeast of the country and your very own island paradise. You have 3 full days to enjoy the beautiful scenery and marine life of Fernando do Noronho, not to mention its outstanding beaches and crystal clear waters, ideal for swimming, snorkelling and diving. A superb end to your journey through Brazil.
You have a full day guided tour of the city today, to help you get your bearings. Among the sites you will visit are Corcovado and the famous Christ the Redeemer statue and the Sugarloaf Mountain from which there are fantastic views of the city. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and the rest of the day is free.
Breakfast.
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Manaus, the gateway to the Amazon. On arrival you will be driven to your mansion style hotel near the opera house. Enjoy some R&R by the pool, sip on a cocktail at the bar and dine on tasty fare in the bistro. Relax here and take a wander to explore the area or hire a bike if you prefer.
Breakfast.
A full day tour to the Meeting of the Waters, the confluence between the Rio Negro, a river with dark, almost black, water, and the sandy-coloured Rio Solimoes. For almost 4 miles these waters run side by side without mixing. This natural phenomenon is due to the differences in temperature, speed and water density of the two rivers and is fascinating to observe.
Breakfast.
A second day of activities in the Amazon. On walking excursions and canoe rides you will have the chance to see caiman, pink river dolphins, and the endemic, red-faced Uakari monkey. Howler, squirrel and black Capuchin monkeys also reside in the treetops, along with macaws, toucans, sloths and the fascinating-looking hoatzin.
Full board.
Depart Uakari by boat for the return journey to Tefe and the flight back to Manaus, where you check in to the Villa Amazonia once again. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy the hotel's facilities, or step out to explore the town.
Breakfast.
Today you leave the Amazon, with a flight to Fernando de Noronha. This beautiful archipelago of 21 islands is 215 miles off the northeast coast and was declared a Marine National Park in 1988. It has 2 of the best beaches in Brazil, excellent snorkelling and world class diving in crystal clear waters rich with marine life, backed by tropical landscapes. You'll stay in the Dolphin Hotel for the next 4 nights.
Breakfast.
The hotel is located in 12 hectares of gardens at the foot of Pico Hill. Spend time relaxing by the pool or if you want to be more active and venture further afield, you can hire a buggy to explore the area or take a boat trip to neighbouring islands, take things at your own pace.
Breakfast.
Two more days in which to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Fernando de Noronha. You could follow one of the many walking trails on the island or laze on a beach. Fernando de Noronha has 2 of Brazil's top beaches, Praia do Leao and Praia do Sancho. Both offer crystal clear blue water with areas for swimming and snorkelling. And don't forget to sample the fresh seafood!
