Rating: Deluxe
This small, select hotel has just a handful of rooms and is faces the turquoise ocean. It is on the beautiful island of Fernando de Noronha, with its lush hinterland and sandy beaches, which attracts sun lovers, honeymooners and divers. Not too many though, as the 21 islands that make up this archipelago are limited to 460 visitors at a time.
The pousada caters exclusively for adults and has a distinctly romantic ambience. The apartments and bungalows are simple in style yet have mod cons such as air conditioning, flatscreen TV, minibar and en-suite bathroom with L'Occitane toiletries. Each has a private terrace facing Sueste Bay, and bungalows come with hot tubs.
The waters round the island are clear and lend themselves to snorkelling and diving. The plentiful marine species including spinner dolphins and turtles, and colourful coral reefs add to the appeal. Boat rides and fishing trips are popular, and on land you can explore on foot, by bike and on horseback.
It's easy to spend time at the pousada, relaxing by the infinity pool as you perfect your tan, sampling the impressive menu at the restaurant which features a high proportion of fish and seafood, and has a terrace for al fresco dining. You can indulge yourself with a visit to the spa, where there's a choice of massages and therapies to boost your well-being.
