Location: The hotel is in the historic centre of Paraty on the Costa Verde, approximately a 4-5 hour drive from both Rio and Sao Paulo. It is about a 15 minute walk from the shore.
Rooms: There are 23 guest rooms, all air conditioned and with ceiling fan, TV, DVD player, Wi-Fi, safe, minifridge and en-suite bathroom, varying in size and layout, and some with a private terrace or balcony. There are also 2 large suites. The hotel also owns 2 colonial houses that make good family accommodation and come with access to the hotel’s facilities.
Activities: Take a walk around the town of Paraty, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its colonial architecture, churches, squares and forts, spend time on the beaches, go snorkelling, kayaking, hiking, horse riding and watch cooking demonstrations. Staff can arrange a bird watching trip in the nearby Atlantic forest, a schooner cruise in Saco do Mamangua and boat trips in the bay.
Facilities: These include an outdoor pool, spa with massage room and sauna, restaurant (see below), lounge, bar and gardens. There is also a private library, the Livraria das Mares, with an impressive collection of books, periodicals and films and a coffee shop.
Dining: Breakfast is served in an attractive, sunny room and you can also eat al fresco by the pool. Lunch and dinner are served at Restaurant Quintal das Letras in the pousada which uses organic produce from the Fazenda Bananal, a local farm. It is open to guests and the public.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome.
Health: Paraty is a low to no risk malarial area.
