Owned by a French-Brazilian couple, this charming pousada makes a good base in the gorgeous island of Fernando de Noronha. Some 215 miles off the northeast coast, the island's fabulous beaches and crystal clear water lure visitors looking for an escape from the trappings of everyday life.
The 9 guest rooms have en-suite shower rooms and mod cons including flat screen TVs, DVD players, Wi-Fi access and fridges. Rooms are air conditioned, which given the average daytime temperature of 25.4 degrees C, is a welcome touch. Glass doors open onto your wooden deck, where you can laze in a hammock as you ponder how to spend your time on this enchanting island.
Each day at Pousada do Frances starts with a tasty buffet breakfast where you can take your pick from fresh fruits, juices, cereals, pastries and cooked dishes. Your days can be as active or passive as you wish. The island is well known for its dive and snorkelling sites and also has some wonderful beaches where sun lovers can spend lazy hours. The pousada has buggies you can hire to enable you to get around the island independently, as well as a motorboat for further exploring. Staff can arrange a variety of land and water-based excursions to help you fill your time.
The pousada is a short walk (5 minutes) from the village centre where there are restaurants and bars, offering you a choice of dining options at lunch and dinner times. There are also a couple of beaches within walking distance, for gentle relaxation.

Activities: You can rent one of the hotel’s 4x4 vehicles and go exploring. The hotel also has a motorboat for marine tours. Keep an eye out for dolphins, turtles and sharks. There are some excellent dive sites in Fernando de Noronha and the snorkelling is good, too. There are some lovely bays and beaches making this a sun lover’s paradise. Cacherro beach is about a 20 minute walk away. Your hosts, a French-Brazilian couple, speak excellent English and they and their staff will be happy to help you plan your stay and book excursions for you.
Facilities: A tasty breakfast including fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and cooked dishes is served each morning. The hotel has lovely gardens and a sun terrace. Reception is staffed 24 hours a day. There are restaurants in the village where you can enjoy dinner as the pousada restaurant is only open for breakfast.
