La Maison is a French-owned guest house located in the forested Gavea district overlooking Rio, about 5 - 10- minutes by taxi from the beaches and restaurants. There are 5 individually decorated ensuite rooms representing themes from different continents. All rooms have ceiling fans or air conditioning, and either a terrace or a patio. There is no TV or minibar in the rooms to encourage guests to relax, escape from the outside world and spend more time in the spacious lounge, dining room, by the outdoor pool or in the garden. La Maison also has a small sauna. Breakfast only is served, but snacks are available on request. Adventurous guests can visit the market accompanied by a member of staff and cook a meal together accompanied by a nice wine!

Location: La Maison is a small guest house located in Gavea, an affluent residential neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, on the hills above Ipanema and Leblon. The beaches are about 10 minutes’ drive from the guest house and downtown Rio is about a 20 minute drive away.
Rooms: La Maison has 5 guest rooms, each decorated to reflect its name: Copacabana, Shanghai, Recamier, Tiffany and Ganesha. All rooms are spacious with a stylish bathroom stocked with toiletries and either a terrace or patio. All have a fan and an iPod and 2 are air-conditioned. Room service is available.
Activities: Exploring the sites, shops and beaches of Rio. The guest house owners are happy to advise on places to and things to do and see. Relaxing in the gardens and swimming in the pool. The Botanical gardens and Tijuca Forest are just a 5-minute drive away.
Facilities: There is an outdoor swimming pool and a pretty garden complete with monkeys, toucans and hummingbirds. Indoor guest areas include a lounge and living room. Breakfast is served in the open-sided dining area. Lunch and dinner are offered on request. If they wish, guests can join the owner, Jacques, shopping in the markets and later helping to cook, and eat, dinner. Massage can be arranged on request. There is a 24-hour taxi service available for guests.
Dining: Meals are taken at a communal table.
Children: Children of all ages are welcome, although parents should be aware that there are open-sided staircases. Baby cots, monitors and babysitting are available on request.
Health: Rio is not a malarial area.
Communication: There is a communal computer with free high speed internet access.
