Maun Lodge

Okavango Delta

Rating: Modest

Maun Lodge overview

Maun Lodge is a convenient overnight stop on the way to or from a safari in the Okavango Delta, just 4kms from the airport. It's on the outskirts of town alongside the Thalamakane River, an attractive setting where you can unwind in peace. The lodge has a wide range of accommodation styles, catering for a cross section of budgets. All have air conditioning, tea and coffee maker and en-suite bathroom, and range from the basic chalets to large river-facing suites.

Staff at reception can help you arrange various local excursions including flights over the delta and visits to local villages. During downtime you can enjoy meals in the restaurant and barbecues in the atmospheric boma, and socialise with other guests in the riverfront bar. Recreational facilities include an outdoor pool and deck, and a gym. More sports are available at the nearby municipal sports centre.

Children are welcome at Maun Lodge and there are some rooms and chalets that can accommodate families.

Open: Maun Lodge is open all year. It first opened to guests in 1999.

Location: The lodge is on the Thalamakane River less than 3kms from the centre of Maun. The airport is about a 15 minute drive from the lodge.

Rooms: There are 140 rooms altogether divided into several categories. Standard rooms (88) have air conditioning, satellite TV, hot drinks maker and en-suite bathrooms. The 26 executive rooms are larger but otherwise similar. Riverfront rooms (10) have balconies, and the 2 presidential suites also face the river. There are 2 executive suites each with a sitting area and bar. In addition there are 12 budget chalets, all with air conditioning, tea and coffee maker and en-suite bathroom, some of which are large enough to be used as family accommodation. The lodge provides room service.

Activities: Staff at the lodge can help you book activities such as day trips to the Okavango Delta, scenic helicopter flights, horse riding and tours to local villages. These need to be paid for locally.

Facilities: There is a main restaurant, a thatched boma where light meals, buffets and barbecues are served, a bar, an outdoor swimming pool and poolside deck. The lodge has a gym, while the town’s sports centre is nearby and has facilities for squash and tennis.

Dining: Meals are eaten at separate tables in the restaurant and boma.

Children: Children of all ages are welcome, and there are some family rooms and chalets.

Health: This is a malarial area.

Communication: There is complimentary Wi-Fi internet access.

Mrs. Marilyn Riches

"The only weak point of the trip. Rooms and food OK. Pool filthy- covered in brown slime so unusable- no explanation or apology"

Mrs Brenda Foster
"This lodge is OK, I found the air conditioning and other electrical equipment noisy at night, but my daughter said it was fine for her."
Emma Cowley
"absolutely fine, big room, comfy bed - more than adequate for a stop over"
