We have included this 9 day itinerary to give you an idea of possible combinations, but your holiday can be longer, shorter (minimum 3 nights) and can visit alternative or additional destinations.

The specially selected camps and lodges cover a broad range of locations and habitats, so you will see a variety of landscapes and terrains as well as an abundance of animal and bird life. The green season is great time for a safari, with lush vegetation and vast herds of grazing animals. This is also the very best time to visit the Kalahari and salt pans with numbers of game swelled by the rains. With locations as varied as the Okavango Delta, Kalahari Desert, Caprivi Strip and Victoria Falls you are guaranteed an unforgettable safari experience.

Luxury green season accommodation

DAY 1: MAUN TO NXAI PAN

The adventure begins! After arriving in Maun you will be driven to Nxai Pan National Park, for the start of your 5 Rivers Safari. The kalahari salt pans are the dried beds of ancient lakes and today's scenery is a stunning mixture of glassland, woodland and acacia trees. This is peak season so you will see Nxai Pan and its inhabitants at their best. The rich grasslands of rainy sesaon attract a wide range of wildlife including zebra, imnpala, springbok, giraffe as well as predators such as lion and cheetah. You are staying in a luxury suite at a small, welcoming camp and tonight you will meet fellow guests the campfire. Dinner

DAY 2: GAME VIEWING AT NXAI PAN

A full day in Nxai Pan. Take a 4x4 game drive or a nature walk with a local Bushman guide to gain further insight into this fascinating habitat. Here delta meets desert and you'll see plant species, insects and animals from both environments. You can also view game without having to leave the comfort of your room, watching mammals at the camp's waterhole. If you prefer you can visit the famous Baines' Baobabs, which have changed little since first painted by Thomas Baines in 1862. Full board

DAY 3: TO THE OKAVANGO DELTA

Leaving the pans behind you travel to the famous Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world. Known for its profuse wildlife, it will not disappoint. In green season the vegetation is lush, birdlife abundant and animals healthy. This is a great time to visit the delta, to experience the variety of habitits and explore the maze of waterways. Your camp, Kwara, offers creature comforts in en-suite tents, all with great views of the lagoon. After the day's journey and game viewing, unwind over a cold drink as you look forward to a delicious dinner and more adventures to come. Full board

DAY 4: IN THE DELTA

Guided walks, game drives by day and night, mokoro rides and boat trips - the choice is yours! These are all excellent ways to explore the varied terrain of the Okavango Delta. This is one of Africa's best wildlife viewing areas. As well as big game, you can observe plants, insects and tracks on a guided walk or watch fish eagles, storks and herons as you glide through the waterways in your mokoro. Back at camp enjoy a well-earned G&T as you watch the sun go down. Full board

DAY 5: TO KWANDO RESERVE

Continue your safari as you travel to Lebala Camp in the Kwando Reserve. An area of open plains (Lebala means 'wide open spaces' in Setswana), marshlands and islands, this special ecosystem is home to a wide range of plains game including zebra, wildebeest, impala and giraffe. There is also a high concentration of elephant. Lebala welcomes you with spacious tents, luxurious outdoor showers, private viewing decks and friendly staff. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool between activities. Meals are served in the open-sided dining room and you'll enjoy drinks by the camp fire. Full board

DAY 6: GAME VIEWING IN KWANDO

The camp has a remote setting adjacent to the Linyanti Wetlands which form the border between Botswana and Namibia. Morning and evening game drives with a guide and tracker optimise your chances of spotting the varied wildlife. The guides and trackers here take great pride in their work and will do their best to give you a memorable game viewing experience. Off-roading (Lebala is in the private Kwando Reserve) adds to the excitement of your game drives, while night drives allow you to glimpse otherwise elusive nocturnal species. Full board

DAY 7: TO VICTORIA FALLS

Today you'll travel to Stanley's Safari Lodge on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. Just 3 kilometres from the Zambezi River and the falls, you'll be able to see the spray from your cottage deck as you settle in to your new home. Head off to view the mighty falls at closer range or maybe opt for an afternoon of quiet relaxation, enjoy a swim in the infinity pool and savour a sundowner. Full board

DAY 8: AT VICTORIA FALLS

Stanley's Safari Camp is the perfect base from which to explore the falls, the Zambezi River and Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, so there's no shortage of activities! Take a guided tour of the world-famous Victoria Falls, which are particularly impressive at this time of year, enjoy a river safari or sunset cruise or enjoy a final safari. While here you can also visit Mikuni village, home to most of the lodge staff, for an insight into Zambian life. You will enjoy a warm welcome and store up memories to cherish. Full board

DAY 9: TIME TO GO HOME ... MAYBE!

This morning you will be transferred to Livingstone airport for your onward flight. Your 5 Rivers Safari ends here. But it doesn't have to! Getting there: This sample itinerary starts in Maun and ends in Livingstone. However, this is a flexible itinerary which can begin and end in any of the following: Livingstone, Maun, Kasane and Victoria Falls. International return flights to Botswana from the UK over the green season will be about £1,000 per person.

Departure dates: Travel is between 15th November 2016 and 31st March 2017. This tailor made itinerary can begin on any day within these dates to suit your wishes.

Time: GMT +2hrs

Flight time: Overnight flights to Johannesburg then connections to Maun, total flying time about 13 hours.

Language: The official language is English. Tswana is spoken widely.

Visas: Not required for British travellers (up to 90 days). EC nationals can ask us for further advice.

Health: There are no compulsory vaccinations, except yellow fever if you are coming from an infected area. Malaria prophylactics are recommended in the north.
