What a great way to make an already special trip even more special! A hot air balloon trip over the Serengeti is not a cheap option, but it gives you such a different view of the reserve and its wildlife that many people choose to treat themselves to this great experience.
It is available from most lodges in the central Serengeti area (and some in the western corridor), and the day starts at 5am. You take off at dawn and you have about 1 hour’s flight. Sometimes you will be high above the plains to get a great overview, and at other times your pilot will come down lower so you can see the wildlife more closely.
On landing you are treated to a bush breakfast of a glass of bubbly with eggs and bacon and all the English breakfast trimmings!
You will be back at Seronera (in central Serengeti) by about 10am.
Balloon safaris operate from 2 bases, Seronera and the Western Corridor.
The balloon launch is planned for dawn, around 6:30am, and finished by around 09:30, with the flight lasting about an hour. Balloon rides operate daily.
You'll be collected from your camp or lodge before sunrise and transferred to the launch site. The flight is followed by champagne and a full English breakfast served in the bush. Afterwards you'll be transferred back to your accommodation to continue your safari.
