Namibia has over 300 days of sunshine a year, though temperatures and rainfall vary greatly according to season and region. In the central Namib Desert daytime summer temperatures can top 40°C but can fall below freezing at night.
The northeast of the country has a subtropical climate and has the heaviest rainfall. The northern and interior areas have a short rainy season from October to December and experience the main rains from January to April. Weather and climate on the coast are dominated by the Bengeula current of the Atlantic Ocean, which leads to less rain and lower temperatures than the rest of the country.
