Help me plan my trip

Cusco & surrounding Inca sites

Our Unforgettable Experiences pages are written by Tribes clients. They tell us in their own words what they really felt about the things they did and places and people they met on their holidays with Tribes. Hopefully this will help you when it comes to trying to decide where to go and what to do.

We'd like to thank everyone who takes the trouble to write one of these Experience reviews for us. This is a new part of our website since February 2010, and we hope they will be added to quickly over the coming months.

  3. Cusco relies upon tourism: 80% of the population work in it yet it still manages to keep a warmth and variety that makes it memorable. A huge choice of food and drink, a set of great experiences to hand and great service everywhere we went. Sometimes it is the odd experiences that stand out - one Sunday we happened upon a local festival with the local population from the parish hosting an 'old fashioned' fair with games, music, food stalls, dancing and gambling!! We had the good fortune to be there on a day celebrating theatre with 30 theatre companies providing street theatre throughout the city. We also got engaged in a local strike with workers marching on the Palace of Justice to protest against corruption. It all added to the interest. Macchu Picchu deserves its reputation. The scale and the broad sweep of the site with the mountains and the depth of the valleys on either side are truly remarkable and memorable.

  3. Cusco is a great old city and delightful to walk round. Only danger is taking it easy if flying in from Lima as the altitude hits you for the first 24 hours. Also watch the sun at this altitude! The Inca sites are a great appetiser for the real thing up in the Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu.

  3. We really liked Cusco - its location at altitude, good views with plenty to see in terms of Inca culture. Our guide was very good and covered the Sacred ValleyTour very well indeed.

  3. You can't visit this area without going to Machu Picchu and Cusco was a fascinating experience along with the Sacred Valley.

  3. The Inca stuff is quite and completely amazing, but I did find myself a bit Inca'd out by the end. Luis is an excellent guide and when I asked for a bit of a walk instead of more ruins took me on an excellent side trip.
