In Peru's southern desert is one of the world’s greatest enigmas - the Nazca Lines. Etched into the desert floor there are mysterious designs and drawings so vast that you can only really appreciate them from the air. Decades of archaeological study and supposition have thrown up any number of explanations for the Nazca Lines, from alien intervention to man-made astronomical charts or maps of water courses - why would an ancient civilization without the means of flight create something that can only be seen from the air?

At an elevation of 8,500 feet, the Urubamba Valley, or Sacred Valley of the Incas, is the historic heart of the Inca Empire. The Incas saw this beautiful valley as a representation of heaven on earth, imbuing the Urubamba River with symbolic importance, and built many magnificent temples and fortresses along its banks.
