Sometimes you just need time on the beach to relax and let the kids play, whilst enjoying good accommodation. However it is also nice to know that there are other options close by if you decide to be a bit more active, or if you want to show the children something of a different culture and environment.

There are a few small lodges here, but apart from incredible beaches, it is also a great place for watersports.
NOTE: Benguerra was hit by a cyclone in February 2007. Many lodges will not be open until about August.

On Lamu Island the lovely lodge of Kipungani, has a great pool, is right on the beach and even has a kids club. Also has great links with the local community.

Ras Nungwi is a good quality lodge in the north of the island, with good watersports facilities.

Just south of Salvador, a peninsular with good beaches, nice accommodation and some interesting excursions.
