The standard of food, knowledge and experience of the guide was very good. Accepting the accommodation is in a remote location it still left a lot to be desired - A/C units fitted but couldn't function; unexpected power cuts nightly and frogs crawling out of toilet during night. Room generally tidy but only shelves provided for storage. Wildlife experience was excellent but experience spoilt by accommodation. Drinks were very expensive (perhaps due to transport costs) in comparison with other venues. Could take a leaf out of Cristalino's book in this respect.
This is extremely friendly, and more fun to stay in. However it was very hot, and our first night we were given a very basic room with nothing but a fan and two beds! However the next room was a great improvement. Food was similar to Cristalino, though slightly better.
We don't have many positive comments about this place, other than most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. They did not know of our dietary requirements, which may not have been their fault and I will say that they immediately provided something we could eat, but generally the food was not great and was often cold The drinks, even bottled water were very expensive. The external area was rather messy - we saw a couple of torn bags of rubbish and empty tins on several occasions. The rooms were very basic, as we expected, but the sheets were old and grey and one of the pillows was stained with black mould. The towel rails and hooks were not fixed to the wall and kept falling out of the fixings. The room appeared to be clean when we arrived, but whilst we were there the bed was not made, the bin in the bathroom was not emptied nor was it cleaned. A number of window panes in the 'restaurant' were either missing or cracked and the glass in our bedroom window was also cracked. We left this lodge to stay at the Hotel Porto Jofre to return to JER lodge 3 days latter. We were shown to the same room as we had before. I was pleased that the sheets and towels had been changed and the floor swept, however, it was clear that the toilet had not been cleaned. We spoke to other guests, who were also unhappy about the condition of the lodge and who inetended to complain. This lodge is described in the same terms as the Hotel Porto Jofre, which is like the Dorchester, by comparison!
Absolutely lovely. Our small individual bungalow was at the edge of the property by a biggish pond were a LOT of frogs were serenading us, while from our porch we could watch the antics of the resident hyacinth macaws, who together with the plumbous ibis also replaced our alarm clock for the pre-breakfast walks/rides with our guide, Fabricio. The food was also excellent.
The lodge is set in the heart of the Pantanal surrounded by pleasant grounds supporting fruit trees or other trees providing nesting for the birds. The accommodation was simple, rustic but perfectly adequate. Good size rooms with comfortable beds, hot showers, fans and air conditioning. Tasty home cooked food was served fresh every day. Good variety and safe to eat salad and fruit. Fresh drinking water was provided free if you had a container or bottle to put it in. The staff were obliging and pleasant and Eduardo our guide/lodge owner was very enthusiastic and having grown up in the Pantanal had a very impressive knowledge of wildlife. Eduardo worked with a driver so during wildlife spotting his concentration was 100% and this made it safer on the road also. Extras included laundry service, carbonated drinks, beer and bottled water. Firefly display at nightfall free!
