We had a brilliant holiday and will spend many hours telling everyone we meet about it.
Highlights were probably, in the order we did them:
Apartheid Museum in Joburg
Pony Trekking in Lesotho and Masakala
Rhinos at Mkhaya
Tribes service
Excellent
Excellent
Our consultant coped with all our destination requests and it was great to have one point of invoice rather than having to book all 10 accommodations ourselves. Every arrangement went like clockwork and our hosts were prepared for our vegetarian diet and bent over backwards to suit us. We will recommend Tribes to others who want something a bit different.
Expectations
Excellent
Excellent
We wanted to experience different aspects of South Africa and go beyond the main tourist itinerary and this holiday exceeded our expectations. We will keep in contact with the people we met in Roma and Masakala and help their local projects.
Guides
Excellent
Excellent
All the local people who took us on walks, pony trekking, game drives were excellent and patient too since they had to pose for numerous photographs and give us their life stories!
Social & Environmental Responsibility
Good
Good
Soweto, Lesotho and Masakala were particularly good examples where we felt our presence was investing in the community.
Mkhaya is a good example of a low tech but up-market lodge
Warm welcome, fascinating fellow guests(Afrikanners from Joburg on 'birthday treat'!) unique experience of Soweto bar/restaurant on Saturday night. Excellent.
We really valued having planned a trip which included experiences of black South Africa and Lesotho alongside the standard sea and safari destinations and met other tourists who realised that they probably could have done so too but it hadn't been suggested to them.
