Overall level of satisfaction

We have just returned from a fantastic trip to Peru. We spent five days in the Amazon basin which was amazing be prepared for alot of insect repellent! The lodges were beautiful despite their remoteness and the food was really good. The guide we had was brilliant and found us tarantulas, piranhas and many more exciting animals. The Macaws were out of this world, a once in a lifetime experience. we then went on the Salkantay trek which took 7 days to get to Machu Picchu. Again an amazing experience with breathtaking scenery, beautiful lodges and great food. The guides again were very special. Our only complaint was that the guide for Machu Picchu was not up to the usual standard and this was disappointing given the enormity of the occassion. Our hotel in Cusco, Monasterio, was spectacular and we recommend a couple of days in the Sacred Valley as a must do. The hotel in Lima (Casa Andina Private Collection) was a poor reflection of what Peru has to offer, we do not recommend this as a place to stay.
