    6. This was a fantastic trip - all of our group enjoyed it immensely.

    8. My Tribes consultant was very knowledgeable, responsive and helpful, providing many good suggestions which improved our trip.

A key factor in making this trip so successful was Tribes' ability to tailor the trip to meet our particular requests on dates and itinerary.
    9. Expectations

    10. We expected the Galapagos Islands to be fantastic and they were.

Nevertheless, the trip exceeded my expectations.

With so much travel, by various means, it would not be unreasonable to expect a few things to go wrong. However, everything ran smoothly, as planned.

We also found the stopover in Quito more interesting than we had expected.

    11. Guides

      • Excellent

    12. All our guides were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.

They took their responsibilities seriously (both for us and for protecting the environment they were showing to us). Nevertheless, they all seemed really to enjoy what they were doing and communicated their enthusiasm for this to us.

It was also impressive that (without exception) they were always on time.
    13. Social & Environmental Responsibility

    14. As expected, in the Galapagos Islands, there was a continuing reinforcement of the message that conservation of environments such as this (and the animals that live there) is an essential activity.

However, this was not just communicated in the usual way, with printed notices, but in practical ways as well.

So, for example, if the guides showing us round parts of the National Park saw rubbish (such as a piece of tissue or a bottle top) on the ground, they would pick it up and put it in their pocket. Every little thing makes a difference - actions speaking louder than words.

    16. OTHER ACCOMMODATION:

      Hotel Miconia, San Cristobal:

This is a nice hotel, on the road next to the beach.

The restaurant is quite small, so you need to book to get a table for dinner.

      La Casa de Marita, Isabela:

This good hotel has a fantastic location, right on the beach. The rooms we stayed in had balconies, with views of the ocean.

    3. The owner and his staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and ready to help.

The hotel is in an attractive quiet location on the waterfront.

The rooms are a good size, beautifully designed and very well decorated and fitted-out.

This is one of the hotels I like best, of any I have stayed in anywhere.

    3. We had seen films and books beforehand, showing the differing landscapes and wide variety of iconic Galapagos animals, but seeing these for yourself is an amazing experience.

The fact that time for snorkelling and swimming was included in the itinerary was very good, particularly as we were doing a land-based (rather than boat-based) trip. This allowed us to see some of the animals (such as sea-lions, turtles and rays) underwater.
