Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

This reserve lies on the flood plains of the Sapta Koshi River in the south eastern lowlands. Riverine forest dominates the vegetation of the reserve, though there is also sal forest and grassland. This park will be of primary interest to bird lovers, though there are also wild buffalo, blue bulls, gangetic dolphins, plus deer, otters and some cats. The park is an important staging point for migrating birds as well as being an all-year round playground for resident birds.

Situation
In the lowland terai of eastern Nepal, on the Sapta-Koshi river plain close to the Indian border.
Activities
Most sfaris in the park are by foot, although you can also take an inflable raft to explore the waters of the Koshi River.
Health
There are no compulsory vaccinations.
Best times to go
October to March are the best times to visit.
Getting there
Koshi Tappu can be reached by plane from Biratnagar or by a long drive from Chitwan National Park.
