Bardia National Park

The is a park or wildlife reserve

Set in mid-western Nepal, Bardia is the largest and most undisturbed wilderness area in the Nepalese Terai. It was started to ensure the survival of the tiger and to conserve a representative ecosystem of this region. A range of species is found here including the swamp deer, blackbuck, elephants, gharial and marsh mugger crocodiles, gangetic dolphins, leopards, civets, rhesus and langur monkeys, rhinos and tigers. The area is also rich in birdlife, including the rare floricans and silver-eared mesia.Wildlife viewing is done with vehicles and on elephant back. Good tented safari camps and lodges are available.

There are no compulsory vaccinations.

Best times to go

October to March are the best times to visit, with the long grass of the Terrai normally cut in late January allowing for the best sightings.

Getting there

Bardia cna be reached by flying to nearby Nepalgunj, or by a long drive through the terai from Chitwan National Park.
