The East coast of Mauritius offers beautiful coves and clear lagoons which receive a cooling sea breeze. There are trekking trails inland and nature sanctuaries, interesting museums, shopping at Flaq market and visits to tiny out lying islands.
Beaches north of Flacq are lovely and wild, very pretty with miles of sandy coves. Belle Mare and Trou D'Eau Douce are both lovely beach areas. Post Lafayette is a very quiet and beautiful spot.
Inland is an area of primary forest at Le Domaine Seven Valleys which is a lovely place to find a calm, natural retreat and enjoy some trekking. There are 2-6km of trails where you can see deer, wild boar and enjoy the forest. Quad bikes and horse riding are also available here.
From the village of Trou d'Eau Douce you can take excursions up the river mouth, swimming and diving under the waterfall and picnics on the riverbanks.
Dive sites in the region include the Japanese Garde, Due Puits Pass (one of the most popular sites), The Gorgonian Forst (for experienced divers) and the Castle.
Flacq is one of the most important villages of Mauritius and is really the centre for the Eastern region. There is a large open air market on certain days of the week where you can haggle for a bargain!
One of the most photographed aerial views of Mauritius is the lagoon around Ile Aux Cerfs with it's wonderful colours and shapes. This ia a tiny island with pure white sands with two restaurants, take a trip there and enjoy swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing.
