The Bangweulu Swamps (or wetlands) are best known for the rare Shoebill Stork but are also home to huge herds of Black Lechwe and are a water wilderness area similar is size to Botswana's Okavango Delta.

It was once home to three independent kingdoms, now the modern cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur and contains many important temples and monuments. On the rim of the valley, Dulikhel and Nagakot are hill stations which offer beautiful mountain views and great opportunity for trekking.

Knysna is a coastal town famous for it's lovely beaches and it's oysters but is also an attraction for the unique coastal forest that meets the Indian Ocean. Plenty to do in the region from hiking and biking to sampling the many restaurants!

This large province is a centre for hiking in the Drakkensburg, the warm beaches of the Indian Ocean and several top class game reserves.

A beautiful remote lake, dotted with tiny islands, in the far west of Uganda. An excellent stop over between the gorilla parks and Kampala and offers places to chill out and enjoy the scenery or canoeing, walking or bird watching.

Rwanda's largest freshwater lake, Kivu is a busy source of fishing for the local communities and although the ports are not as busy as in colonial times, there are gorgeous views and scenery and it's a great place to relax between more strenous primate tracking activities or safari in Rwanda.

Lake Natron is one of the most interesting geological features of Africa's rift valley in a remote part of Northern Tanzania with fasinating volcanic scenery and a soda lake which provides a breeding ground for flamingos.

The Limpopo is a mix of hot plains and misty mountains, a wonderful wilderness area for walking and bush activities, especially popular for horse riding safaris.

Two main roads head south from Amman to the Red Sea port of Aqaba. The Desert Highway is a fast road cutting through a swathe of empty desert which only takes a few hours to run the length of the country. The Terai is the belt of lowland grasslands and forests at the base of the Himalayas, rich in culture and wildlife. The Tuli Block is very different to anywhere else in Botswana. It has dramatic rocky outcrops and dry riverbeds and contains the Tuli Game Reserve. Walking, cycling and horse riding are popular here.

A highland area running through north - central Malawi which consists of rolling hills and river valleys. Great for hiking and birdwatching.

Known as the 'sunset coast' the West of Mauritius is a haven for nature and sports lovers. Deep sea fishing surfing and kite surfing are popular here.

Home to the winelands, garden route, crashing Atlantic shores and warm Indian Ocean plus of course the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, the Western Cape has plenty to offer the visitor.

Zomba town is the old colonial British capital of Malawi and has a fascinating market and several interesting historical sites. Zomba Plateau nearby is a wonderful area for hiking and birdwatching and has stunning views over the region.
