Wadi Rum
Back
Wadi Rum is a spectacular area of desert flanked by steep cliffs. There are lots of hidden canyons or siqs within Rum, with some very remote and beautiful areas to explore. Over the centuries many civilisations have passed this way and all have left their mark. There are ancient drawings left by Thamudic tribes and the Nabateans occupied the area before they moved to Petra. Wadi Rum is also famed for being the place where Lawrence of Arabia met the Arab forces and together they planned their assault on the Ottomans, riding through Wadi Rum and taking Aqaba from the desert. Today the wadi is a brilliant place for walking, jeep tours and for camping out under the stars staying in Bedouin tents. You can spend anything from a half day to several days exploring this very special part of the world.
