Holiday review by Alison Rowley

Name: Ms. Alison Rowley
Date of trip: 27/06/2015
Number of people: 2
Country: Zimbabwe

Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Zimbabwe was everything I expected and more! The local people are so friendly, helpful, proud and keen to share their country with you. The areas we visited were varied and showed us different aspects of the country and the wildlife was, simply put, amazing."
Tribes Service: "From start to finish Tribes were great. Sinead listened to what we wanted and suggested camps and lodges that were a perfect fit. Our emphasis on this trip was wildlife and we certainly got that."
Guides: "Guides in Zimbabwe are said to be the best in Africa, and after this trip, we certainly wouldn’t dispute that. Friendly, so knowledgeable and always willing to share and point out even the smallest things."
Social & Environmental Responsibility: "It’s hard to quantify this, but the lodges we stayed at in Hwange and Mana Pools do seem to support the local community both in terms of employment but also education, by supporting schools and scholarships and in addition they help village ladies to start up their own businesses and become self-sufficient. Some of them make clothing and jewellery which is sold at the lodges. They make great souvenirs to take home. There is also a strong slant towards conservation at both lodges and they support local efforts and conservation initiatives and also work maintaining waterholes, participating in game counts etc, it seems to be naturally incorporated into what they do."

Kanga Camp
Mana Pools is beautiful. Whilst Kanga is set inland, it has its own waterhole and you can sit and watch animals come to you throughout the day as they come to quench their thirst. On one day we went out on a long drive to the river with a picnic lunch which we ate while looking over at the Zambezi Escarpment in Zambia – stunning. This was where we did a walking safari, whilst we didn’t see any large game there was plenty of other stuff to grab our attention and we learned so much from our fantastic guide!
Somalisa Acacia
Somalisa was fantastic. One of the selling points for this camp is the pool where the elephants come to drink. You can get quite close to take photographs without the need of a zoom lens and it’s a wonderful way to see herd dynamics as they come and go throughout the day. There is also a waterhole in front of the camp but they prefer to wallow in the mud at that one.

Our Memories

"A highlight has to be arriving at Somalisa to find lions already in camp – quite amazing. There was also Max, a resident bull elephant who hangs around camp quite a bit, he’s a real character. "
