Social & Environmental Responsibility: "Can hardly give ourselves credit for being eco-tourists when we were being picked up and driven everywhere...!"

Accommodation

Patio Andaluz
This was the only disappointment of the trip. None of the four rooms we used had external windows. One had air con, which was a blessing, but overall it felt like living in cave. Gloomy, stuffy and hot, even with ceiling fans. Noisy too - bathroom fans (both your own and your neighbours) sounds like aircraft taking off. Part of the problem is that the internal courtyards have been covered over too so there's no air circulating anywhere. However, can see that if you want to stay in the old town, there isn't a lot of alternative. The location is perfect. But on balance, would rather have been better to stay in comfort in the new town and take a few more taxis.

Bellavista Cloud Forest Lodge
Not the hotel's fault, but glad we didn't stay for more than one night. The all-pervasive damp of the cloudforest doesn't make it easy to sleep. Plus the bed's are rock hard (probably to counteract the damp). Notes about the hotel said it was mostly vegetarian food but that wasn't our experience - ate pasta bolognese and meatloaf.

Mary Anne
Lovely boat, with particularly calm, smiling and competent captain, who ran a very tight ship. Food was good but very salty.
