Overall level of Satisfaction

Tribes Overall: "Everything went very smoothly - pick up and transfers on time, camps came up to expectations, food amazingly good and fresh, wildlife and scenery just stunning. "

Tribes Service: "I was very pleased with everything - lots of information was provided, my endless questions answered promptly, advice was given without an pressure to opt for something. Great, thank you Hannah."

Guides: "The Maasai guides/spotters at both Porini Amboseli and Mara were great. Very patient, knew exactly when to stop for animals and how long to wait for us to peer through binoculars and take photos. At Samburu Intrepids there was just one driver/guide, who was also good but it wasn\'t the same as he had to concentrate on both looking for animals and navigate the bumpy roads. All drivers drove responsibly and slowly when necessary."

Social & Environmental Responsibility: "The two Porini camps really made us feel that we were contributing to sustainable tourism and the local community, as well as having a great holiday. The safari buckets for showers at Porini were a great experience, and made us realize once again how precious water is. Samburu Intrepids is a bit more up-market, and none of us really enjoyed it as much as the other two camps despite the greater creature comforts."

Accommodation

Amboseli Porini
Really wonderful from arrival to departure. Friendly staff and good food at the camp. The safari jeep was the coolest around and it was fantastic to have the whole conservancy to ourselves to view the wildlife without another 9 vehicles jostling for a good view (as was the case in the main reserves).

Samburu Intrepids Camp
After coming from a Porini camp we were rather disappointed that we had constant electricity and running hot water in the camp, and a menu for all meals! We had lost touch with "nature". This is a bigger camp, tents aren't really tents, more staff in uniforms milling around, and many more vehicles in the reserve. The level of comfort is very good, but it wasn't really a "bush" experience. The best thing about this camp was the excellent presentations on wildlife and Samburu culture the two evenings by Thilas - we learnt a lot and had a good discussion with him.

Giraffe Manor
We were in the Karen Blixen family suite which was both spacious and beautifully furnished. This place really comes up to scratch, and it is nice to be out of the noisy town centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful, walking us to the giraffe centre and driving us to the elephant orphanage at no additional cost.

Our Memories

"One of the best \"non-animal\" experiences was when we were driven to the airstrip near Porini Amboseli camp to catch a plane the Nairobi. The airstrip was just a bit of bush that had been cleared, the plane was a small 6 seater, and one of us got to sit in the co-pilots seat. The children loved it. "
"When in Nairobi we went to the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage. What an experience, learning about the wildlife trust, how they rescue the little orphans, hand rear them and release them into the wild. We \"adopted\" an 8 year old male, and we will be able to follow his progress until he is released back into the wild. We will have to return to Kenya to see him again!"
