South Luangwa through a Lens

Spend a week in 2 beautiful camps far from the busy central area of South Luangwa. This area has amazing game viewing - 95% of guests staying at Kaingo and Mwamba Camps see leopard and lion. Shenton Safaris have unique photographic hides which allow for intimate close up game viewing and spectacular photographic opportunities. Their camps are used by professionals such as National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC, Frans Lanting and Andy Rouse.

Shenton Safaris is owner run and operated and both Derek and his wife Jules are fantastic photographers, the vehicles allow for balancing large lens on the bumpy roads and beanbags are provided. The passionate guiding team are extremely exeperienced and knowledgeable. Drives and walks are operated from both camps.

Their unique photographic hides include a hippo hide where you can sit and watch pods of hippos going about their daily business (which consists of lots of snorting and sleeping!), an elephant hide which is high on a platfrom in the bush on the Luangwa river near a point where elephants regularly cross in the dry season. It is possible to arrange sleep outs and special bush dinners on the platform. There is a mobile floating hide on a boat which is moved into position in the dry season to get up close to the spectacular Carmine Bee Eaters when they are nesting in the river banks.

Pricing guidelines for Zambia

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless airlines have special offers). Zambia combines well with Malawi and Botswana.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
