Luangwa North and South Adventure

This 10 night safari in the Luangwa Valley takes you through from the bottom to the top, staying in both South and North Luangwa parks and stopping in Luambe National Park on the way too.  The Luangwa region is beautiful and the scenery varies a lot throughout the valley.  The holiday uses Kafunta River Lodge and their seasonal camp Island Bush Camp combined with a remote location in North Luangwa.  The safari is conducted in open 4x4 game viewing vehicles with shad roofs.

The adventure starts at Kafunta River Lodge where you can recover from your long journey out to Luangwa, enjoy the abundant local wildlife, the pool and hot tub.  Day and night drives and walks can be taken here.  Then on to Island Bush Camp which is very rustic but still very comfortable with en-suite facilities using bucket showers where water is heated for you from the camp fire.  The 'island' moves with the seasons, the sand banks shifting in shape and size, this last season the camp had to be moved completely after the amzing floods early in the year! Then you head north, stopping overnight in the little visited Luambe National Park in between North and South Luangwa.

The journey continues by a scenic flight in a small plane up to the remote North park.  The camp used here varies depending on availability but for 2008, we anticipate this being at Mwaleshi Camp, a rustic and well run location on a river.  Game veiwing in the North park is primarily on foot.

Trip highlights

  • Experience the complete Luangwa Valley from one end to the other.
  • Fantastic wildlife in Luangwa, including many leopards and amazing numbers of hippos and crocodiles in the rivers.
  • Rustic, comfortable accommodation
  • Affordable combination of locations

The staff at Kafunta had organised everything brilliantly and nothing was too much trouble - Our guides were good company and very knowledgeable. This is our 10th trip to Southern Africa and one of the best we've had.
