About Nanzhila Plains Camp

  • Close Panel

Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is a lovely small camp which was built on the site of the old Nanzhila Rest Camp which had been built in the late 1950's. It now has a large central lounge area and viewing deck with 6 rooms either side of the main lapa - 3 stone and thatch chalets and 3 tented rooms.

The camp is situated in the remote and seldom visited southern sector of Kafue National Park and is accessed from Ngoma airstrip around 2 hours game drive away.

The area around Nanzhila consists of lush woodlands of Miombo, Zambezi Teak and Mopane, beautiful plains and the stream that runs through it, after which the lodge is named.

There are good populations of a number of antelope species including Roan and Sable, Reedbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Oribi, Hartebeest and Eland as well as all the major carnivores, with a particularly strong population of Wild Dog and Cheetah.

The birdlife is amazing throughout the year, and sightings can almost be guaranteed of the endemic Black-cheeked Lovebird, the Wattled Crane, Ground Hornbill and Saddle-billed Stork amongst others. This is a superb location for keen birders.

Pricing guidelines for Zambia

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless airlines have special offers). Zambia combines well with Malawi and Botswana.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150

This is a lovely little camp but there is not much in the way of big game or even mammals in this area.  Birding is superb and the food here is great.  The surrounding area of southern Kafue was badly poached and the game around here is still very skitish, hopefully this will improve in the coming years.
