Lunga River Lodge is in the remote north east corner of Kafue National Park. The Lunga is one of the three main rivers feeding the Kafue and is flanked by woodlands along the river bank. This river is beautiful and different in it's habitat and formation to many other major rivers in Africa.
Lunga River Lodge has six lovely thatched rooms on the banks of the river with en-suite bathrooms, each room has a private deck with lovely views. There is a bar with sundeck looking over the river, an eating area set on the top of a termite mound, an enclosed pool and a relaxing lounge area.
Activities here are centred around the water, exploring the river by boat, on foot along its banks, or by vehicle in the fringing woodlands and dambos (open, grassy areas). Hippo, crocodile, elephant and leopard are present, while impala, puku and wildebeest are common. A small population of the unusual tree hyrax is resident in the camp at Lunga, their calls echoing through the night.
This camp combines well with a visit to the Busanga Plains area which contrasts well against the river environment at Lunga.
Access to Lunga is by air from Lusaka, flying time around one hour then a short game drive to the camp.
Note: Lunga will be closed for the 2010 season.
