About Kundalila Lodge

  • Close Panel

A great choice for accommodation in Zambia's capital city, this is a small, owner run friendly lodge on a private farm outside Lusaka. Kundalila means 'Crying Dove' in the local language and the pretty and quiet gardens are home to a huge array of local birdlife.

The lodge is comfortable and a great accommodation option if you want to escape the city and start or end your safari in Zambia. There are just six chalets, all ensuite, with a mix of twin or king size beds. All rooms have a complimentary tea and coffee tray with home-made biscuits.

There is a relaxing lapa lounge area in the garden which is a huge thatched open building with a bar. There are books to read and a small plunge pool to cool off. Meals can be enjoyed here, picnics prepared if requested and hearty breakfasts served and there is a licensed bar.

Kundalila is managed by Grant Cooke, and this and a place called KonkaMoya in Kafue are owned and run by the Cooke family.

Pricing guidelines for Zambia

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless airlines have special offers). Zambia combines well with Malawi and Botswana.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150

When I arrived it was pouring down yet the gardens still managed to look gorgeous!  It took about 40 minutes to drive here from the airport, but I was happy I'd decided to stay here for my night in Lusaka rather than somewhere impersonal.
The manager, Grant, is welcoming and attentive, and I liked my little chalet.
Being west of the city this place is also ideal as a night before or after going to Kafue National Park.
Stay here if you want to feel that you are still in Afrrica rather than going for something more standard such as the Protea Hotel or Holiday Inn.
