About Kapani Lodge

  • Close Panel

Kapani Lodge is an exclusive lodge on a lagoon just on the outskirts of South Luangwa National Park. It is set on an oxbow lagoon. The word Kapani means 'place of Mpane trees'.

The lodge accommodates up to 18 guests. There are 8 standard suites, which feature a lounge with bar 'fridge as well as enuite bathroom. Walk-in mosquito nets srround the beds and there are overhead fans in the bedrooms. Lagoon House is even more spacious. It overlooks the Kapani Lagoon and is perfect for honeymooners, guests requiring extra privacy or family groups.

The lodge has a central thatched building housing the lounge and library with a bar and dining area on a raised deck overlooking the lagoon. The viewing deck has a telescope to help with birding and game viewing from the lodge. There is a swimming pool at the other end of the lodge gardens to the dining area in a secluded position. Meals are usually served in the open under the shade of trees, on the terrace, the deck or by the pool. Private dinners can be arranged. There is a small gift shop selling books, clothes and local crafts.

Kapani Lodge is the home camp of Norman Carr Safaris, one of the pioneer safari companies of Luangwa Valley. Still run by Norman's family, Kapani has excellent guides and vehicles and several seasonal bushcamps deep inside the South Luangwa National Park.

We suggest a tailor made holiday to include some time at both Kapani and the bush camps. Norman Carr was instrumental in setting up walking safaris in Zambia and guided bush walks are offered from Kapani and all of the bush camps, it is possible to actually link up walks between several of the bush camps.

Pricing guidelines for Zambia

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless airlines have special offers). Zambia combines well with Malawi and Botswana.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

A short avenue of tall flamboyant trees welcomes you to Kapani Lodge. The grounds are shady thanks to the many trees, and the cottages are nicely spaced throughout the garden. It's a well-heeled safari lodge which is immaculately run by the excllent staff. Either as a base from which to visit Norman Carr Safaris bushcamps, or simply as your main base for a safari in South Luangwa, Kapani will suit lots of people and delight the great majority.

Amanda Marks, Tribes managing director, stayed March 2011

Kapani Lodge used to be my 'neighbours' when I worked in Luangwa Valley so I have fond memories of it - Christina and the team who run it are lovely.  Kapani itself does have a 'lodge' feel because of the chalet style rooms, but they are big and comfy and the setting under the huge trees overlooking a lagoon is fantastic.  The food is superb and it's perfect for families with the pool and large rooms and suites.

Julie Croucher, Africa Sales Manager - visited and stayed at Kapani several times
