About Jacana Lodge

  • Close Panel

Jacana Lodge is set on the edge of a crater lake and is designed to blend into the wooded sroundings of the Maramagambo Forest. The lodge is built od natural materials including rock, wood and rope to enhance its natural feel. Each of the log cabins is individually furnished to a high standard and all are ensuite.

The main lodge building and bar are located beside the lake, with the restaurant and lounge set on a higher level. There is also a swimming pool and sun deck where guests can relax. A floating dining area on the lake is a tranquil place to enjoy sundowners and dinner. The lodge is a perfect place from which to explore the national park.

Game viewing nearby on the Mweya Peninsula and boat trips on the Kazinga Channel offer a stunning variety of wildlife. Near to the lodge is the amazing Kyambura Gorge where treks can be taken to see chimpanzees and colobus monkeys, but this is not for the faint-hearted! Even if you don't go into the gorge, the view over the top with the rollling mist rising is magical.

Guests can also enjoy walks in Maramagambo Forest or kayaking on the crater lake.

Pricing guidelines for Uganda

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £500 to £700 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Uganda combines well with Rwanda and Kenya. Please note that gorillas permits add on about US$500 per visit. We charge these to you at the time of booking.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

I very much enjoyed my stay at Jacana. It's got a lovely position by the lake and the sunset was great. The rooms are large and well spaced in the wood. The food was what really made it though - some really excellent cooking from the lady chef!
It rained hard in the night and the rooms have tin roofs, so it was quite noisy, but actually I quite liked hearing the rain whilst tucked up in a cosy bed.
The lodge is positioned well for game viewing in the north of QENP. It's along a track quite out of the way, but still isn't too far to get back to the main areas of the park or Kazinga Channel, and it's also not too far from Kyambura Gorge either.

Amanda Marks (Tribes managing director), stayed 1 night in March 2010.
