Buhoma Homestead is a small, mid range property situated less than 5 minutes walk from the National Park offices in Buhoma, the gorilla trekking headquarters. Accommodation is in 8, en suite spacious twin / double cottage units with individual verandahs allowing excellent views towards the pristine tropical rain forests of the area. All bathrooms have hot and cold running water and flush toilets. A solar system provides for lighting in the cottages, common areas and central facilities for video and camera charging. As well as gorilla trekking, nature walks are available locally.
The evenings can be cool as the lodge is at almost 1500metres above sea level, but the fire the communal area provides a cosy and warm environment in which guests can meet. A bar service provides local beers, waragi (Ugandan gin), sodas and wines for purchase. Meals are freshly prepared and served in generous portions. A variety of international dishes are served as well as local dishes. Meals are served either outside on the terrace or in the indoor dining room, according to weather conditions.
The lodge has been designed to be eco-friendly and built in a way to minimise impact or footprint on the surrounding area. Construction is from local materials and locally grown foodstuffs are used to support the surrounding communities.
The village community nearby can be walked around (guided or not) where you can see the school and hospital the village and a medicine man, there is also a local orphanage. There is a small local fee for this community walk but the funds to contribute directly to the village. There is also a local Batwa Pygmy tribe that you can visit.
