Olakira means 'star' in Maasai. The mobile nature of the camp allows it to move to the best areas for wildlife viewing with the seasons, early in the year usually being in the Southern Serengeti - Ndutu area and later in the more central area of the park.
Olakira Camp has just 9 guest tents and 2 common area tents. Guest tents are light and spacious with large beds and wide private verandas. All have ensuite bathrooms with shower, wash basin and toilet.
There is a great lounge area and wonderful food is served under the Serengeti stars, ensuring a fabulous all round experience. Guests can relax around the campfire at the end of the day and chat with amongst each other, reliving the day's highlights and looking forward to tomorrow's events.
Days are dedicated to game viewing with both game drives and walking safaris. The mobile camp is able to locate to follow the migration through the Serengeti ecosystem. From June till November the camp is located on the Mara River in Northern Serengeti where the Bologonja River meets the Mara River, ideally sited to witness river crossing as the big herds move north. From December till March Olakira is located in Ndutu, at the time the wildebeest are calving.
