About Nature Discovery Camping

  • Close Panel

Nature Discovery's 'classic' camps can be set up inside or outside the game parks. They are set in the wilderness with no permanent facilities and all the camping equipment and supplies are carried in and taken away, leaving no footprint on the environment. Large sleeping tents are provided with camping toilets and showers, a dining tent and the most important traditional camp fire!

We use private camping sites inside the game parks (Tanzania's National Parks and Conservation Areas) and outside the parks a number of private campsites which are for exclusive use and there are some private bush campsites in remote areas. Three exclusive use campsites are based just outside Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater and the private bush camp sites are dotted round the region from Longido (near the Kenya border on the main road) to Odony'o Lengai (Lake Natron). Although these camps are not luxury, they do offer teh comforts of a large tent with en-suite toilet and shower set in wild environments which give our clients an exclusive experience away from the crowds.

As these camps involve a lot of work to put up and take down, there is a minimum 3 night stay in any location. Expert bush chefs are provided to prepare and cook meals. Special eco-friendly kerosene powered ovens are used to bake fresh bread for the camp and gourmet meals can be provided, despite the kitchen being in the wilds! Eco-friendly water heaters are used to heat shower water using recycled coconut husk bio briquettes.

The camping equipment and tents are clean and modern. Low impact pick up supply vehicles carry the supples, food and camp staff. The drivers help to set up and break camp, carry firewood and and produce hot shower water.

The tents are 4m x 3m insect-proof nylon with a fly sheet and 4m x 1.5m verandah with attached toilet and shower tent. The bathroom is zipped onto the back of the tent with side walls for privacy and safety. The portable toilet is flushable with a metal frame and the shower has a 15 litre bag with a valve-handle and shower head and a wooden frame on the floor. The beds have a 3" foam mattress with bed sheets, blankets and pillows. There is a table and 2 chairs outside the tent and a hurricane lamp is lit outside at night. Bath and face towels are provided and changed every two nights of camping and each tent is provided with a wash stand outside.

A dining tent has been specially designed to function well in all conditions, with removable walls to let in air and views when weather is good and shut it out when it's not! Dining tables, large lightweight chairs with backs and arm rests are provided and at night tables are lit by candlelight.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150
