About Selous Walking Safari

  • Close Panel

This is a fantastic way to experience the wilds of Selous Game Reserve with an exclusive, fly camping walking safari which starts and ends at Sand Rivers Camp.

Operated by Nomad, these safaris are booked on a private basis and cover a variety of habitats and scenery in the area surrounding Sand Rivers and will vary depending on conditions but terrain covered includes the banks of the Rufiji River, riverine and miombo woodlands, Lake Tagalala, a network of sand rivers, open plains and has access to the Hot Springs.

Accommodation is bedrolls with mosquito nets under the stars, sheets and blankets are provided, a dome tent for changing and storing luggage or for use in bad weather. There is shared use of a private shower and toilet tent at the rear of the fly camp area.

This is fully serviced fly camping with experienced support crew and we recommend a three night departure. Extra nights can be booked on request and we advise you overnight the night before at Sand Rivers Camp to acclimatise and prepare for your hiking.

Walking takes place for a minimum of 4-5 hours each day. Game viewing on foot is the main activity. Birding and fishing can also be included, depending on the itinerary.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150
