About Sable Mountain Fly Camp

  • Close Panel

Sable Mountain Lodge offer fly camping in the bush - in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve. The accommodation is on raised platforms so you are off the ground and under the stars! If the weather closes in, mattresses can be moved under the shelter.

Mobile fly camping is a totally different experience from the lodge based visit. An armed ranger accompanies all mobile camps and you have a personal team of staff including a guide and chef who set up the camp at a predetermined site.

The mobile 'tents' all have their own toilet and shower, sheltered from the wildlife! You sleep on raised platforms elevated about 12 feet in the air - a true African wilderness experience, your own star bed!

Dining al fresco under the stars in the middle of one of Africa's last untamed wilderness regions is an experience never to be forgotten. The night chorus of the bush seems incredibly close and as you drift off to sleep it is easy to imagine that you are back in the days of the earliest explorers.

With a maximum group size of four you can really enjoy the untouched wilderness on foot, guided bush safaris being a highlight here.

The camp is based in the remote North-West of the reserve, in an area which is rich in wildlife, but empty of any other human intrusion.

The areas around both our favoured fly camp spots are known for their elephant activity, the birdlife is fantastic, and predators include lions, wild dogs, leopards, and the very rare Selous cheetah.

With very few roads of any description in the area, it is excellent for walking, and we specialise in foot safaris from the mobile camps

It is the perfect base for exploring on foot what is one of the most exclusive and remote areas of the Selous Game Reserve. Our guides are of the highest calibre, and usually Tanzanian. As such, they are not just extremely knowledgeable, but interact with the environment in a very special way.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150
