About Jongomero Camp

  • Close Panel

Jongomero Camp is a luxury safari camp set under shady acacia trees on the banks of the Jongomero Sand River in the remote south-western sector of Ruaha with excellent food, service and guiding. Few other vehicles are seen here, giving guests the chance to enjoy their safari without many other tourists.

Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight large and well-appointed tents under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda. Each room has huge 8ft wide dhow wood beds with 240v atmospheric lighting. The large en-suite bathrooms have double sink units, spacious showers with hot and cold running water, water being heated by solar with back up immersion systems. Huge private viewing decks with comfy seating afront each room with river views.

The dining and living areas are both original and very comfortable offering a great location to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush that surrounds the Camp, and are set with river views under large shady trees. Nearby is a cooling filtered pool for those hot days with towels and loungers provided.

Fly camping and walking mobile safaris may be available from the end of July to November, depending on local conditions and at extra cost.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

I loved Jongomero!  The huge rooms are unbelievably comfortable and particularly the comfy day bed on the verandah was great ... until I was chased indoors by a very nosey elephant and couldn't even get out for my game drive as a family of elephants decided to spend the whole afternoon feeding around my room!!  The set up is just as luxury as it's sister camp in the Selous but it doesn't feel anywhere near as formal, which is nice.  The only thing to watch around the Jongomero area is the Tsetse flies, they are very bad here.  It's also a long way from other parts of the park, so quite restrictive in terms of game viewing.
