About Authentic Ruaha Camp

  • Close Panel

Run by Authentic Tanzania, this is a seasonal bush camp in the heart of Ruaha National Park providing a friendly, personal service.

With just six en-suite tents, the camp takes a maximum of 12 guests at a time. If you are on safari with a private guide and vehicle, you may be sharing the camp with other guests for meals and overnight but you will still game view on your own with your own guide. There are no restrictions on time/km on game drives. Safari itineraries are discussed every evening by the campfire to guests' specific requirements and Authentic Tanzania depart/return on safari according to guests wishes.

The Authentic Camp is set up to provide you with home comforts such as a good nights sleep and en-suite facilities, plus 3 hearty meals a day and a bar, but at the same time is rustic and under canvas so you are immersed into the African bush for a true safari experience. The tents are equipped with stretcher beds complete with mattress, bed linen, pillows and towels as well as a side table and chairs outside under the shaded porch area.

Most of the Authentic Tanzania safaris using this wilderness camp will be on overland trips lead by Sven Liebschen or another highly qualified guide. The key to any good safari is the guide who can share their enthusiasm and knowledge of the local fauna and flora. Sven is a professional safari guide and trained to South African and Kenyan guide qualifications. He grew up in Tanzania and is fluent in German, English and Kiswahili and runs the training programme for the other 'Authentic' guides.

The seasons in Ruaha are roughly as follows:

June-October are cooler months when the grasses are shorter and the most popular time to visit. November, December and January are usually hot and the time of the short rains, a good time for dramatic photography. February and -March are still hot months but a good time for bird watching and the park is arguably at its most attractive, lush and verdant and covered in wildflowers which attract plenty of birds and butterflies. April and May are the time of the long rains so not the best months to visit as certain areas of the park become inaccessible.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150

I absolutely loved my stay at this camp. The camp is comfortable, not at all luxurious but the emphasis is on the bush not the accommodation. The tents do have an ensuite bathroom with a shower and a loo! The guides are fantastic, very knowledagble and also respectful of the environment. There is real flexibility about how you plan you day, and the camp is in an excellent game area. I really couldn't fault this camp, a truly fantastic place and I highly recommend it.
