This traditional safari camp is deep in the forested hills of world famous Ngorongoro.
The camp is at the Kirin Coffee Estate, a highland plantation at an altitude 1,800 m above sea-level, and directly borders Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area (NCAA).The land immediately surrounding the lodge is being restored to some of its natural forest habitat, with the camp management overseeing the conversion from crop cultivation to regeneration of indigenous groundcover, helping the change along by reintroducing around the camp trees and shrubs natural to the area.
The camp is eco-friendly and has a cosy atmosphere, especially at night when it is magically lit up with oil lamps, candles and warming open fires. There are 15 luxury tented rooms under thatch and all on platforms with magnificent views over the Ngorongoro Forest. The rooms are spacious and all have ensuite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. For those chilly upland nights enjoy the warmth of your own African-style firepot. Wake up to the sounds of the awakening forest as a night full of nocturnal wildlife activities gives away to mistily rising sunlight. Complementary coffee and tea are served on your veranda in the morning.
Much of the vegetables are home grown and the food is of a good standard. There are electric lights in the rooms and bathrooms and facilities to charge batteries. Rooms have mosquito nets and torches. As well as your game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater, local walks in the forest and coffee plantation can be booked as can mountain biking and cultural tours.
Please note: It is a very bad road to get here. Certainly not recommended if close to the rainy season.
