About Kungwe Beach Lodge

  • Close Panel

Overlooking the crystal clear waters of Lake Tanganyika with its breathtaking sunsets, on a stretch of golden sandy beach, the recently refurbished, Kungwe Beach Lodge is the perfect blend of comfort and luxury in a romantic setting. Candlelit dinners are served either on the beach, or in the thatched dining area, to the unique sounds of Africa; beetles, crickets and the night calls of chimpanzees. The perfect way to relax after a perfect day!

There are 8 double tents, 1 twin and 1 triple. All are light, airy and spacious and are furnished in the traditional safari style. They are built on raised decks and are furnished with bedside tables, wardrobe and writing desk. The ensuite facilities include a shower cubicle, wash basin and flush toilet and there is hot water throughout the day. Each tent has a covered veranda, complete with table and chairs, where guests can sit back and enjoy the fine views.

The comfortable lounge/dining area is shaped like a dhow, open-sided and with a thatched roof. It is furnished with dhow couches and African antiques. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here or on the beach. In addition the lodge supplies packed lunches for guests who will be away during the day. Barbecues can also be arranged are served on the beach. At night the lodge is lit up by fishermen's lanterns, making a picturesque scene.

Mahale Mountains National Park is home to some of Africa's last remaining wild chimpanzees and tracking these wonderful primates is one of the most popular activities here. As well as the chimpanzees there are several species of monkey and a myraid of forest birds. This part of Lake Tanganyika also offers some of the best fresh water fishing in Tanzania, here you can catch Sangara (Nile Perch), Kuhe (Yellow Belly) to name just a few. The lodge also arranges boat trips and forest and waterfall walks. Guests can also opt to relax on the sun loungers by the lake, go swimming, snorkelling or kayaking. So, however much or little activity you choose to do, your stay at Kungwe Beach Lodge will be a memorable experience to take away with you.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:

  £50 to £150
