About Bougainvillea Safari Lodge

  • Close Panel

Bougainvillea Safari Lodge is locally owned and run, and the staff mostly come from the surrounding village.

There are 34 bungalows in the lush gardens, which are all en-suite and can be made up in any configurations to suit couples, families or friends. There is a nice swimming pool, a bar and restaurant and a gift shop.

Each cosy room has mosquito-netted king or twin beds, a fireplace (winter nights can be cold!), large bathroom with shower and a veranda from which to enjoy the views of tropical gardens. Two of the cottages can be used as family suites, with connecting rooms.

Guests wanting to experience local culture can easily walk into town from the lodge to experience a bustling African community. There are plenty of shops and a local market to explore. If you fancy a stroll into the countryside that's another possibility. One of the staff can escort you to a neighbouring coffee plantation or you can hike in the Ngorongoro Conservation area for a more strenuous outing.

There are massage facilities available on request.

Reggie Bayo and his team have created simple but hearty menus and use local fruit, vegetables, dairy products and eggs making sure food is a fresh as possible.

Bougainvillea is an unpretentious, simple but good value lodge within about 30 minutes drive of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150

  £150 to £300

£££

  £300 to £500

For a specific personal quote based on any tailor made itinerary you have in mind, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.

Tribes Advisor

Bougainvillea Lodge is a kind of sister lodge to Country Lodge. It is similar in style and atmosphere but is slightly older and bigger. The cottages are very nicely done and the food (which I sadly didn't have a chance to try) should be as great, as the head chef worked in the renowned Gibbs Farm for 24 years. It is a good value, comfortable lodge which I happily recommend.
