Journey to the Wild West

An amazing trip to the interior of Tanzania to Mahale Mountains, home to wild chimpanzees on Lake Tanganyika and the vast herds of wildlife in the remote and little visited Katavi National Park.

This is a trip for the real Africa addict with a sense of adventure! Track chimpanzees on the forested mountainous slopes surrounding tranquil Lake Tanganyika, Africa's deepest rift valley lake.

Enjoy wildlife game viewing in Katavi far away from the masses - this small park in western Tanzania is home to huge herds of buffalo and other species which are unaffected by the influx of tourists found in other East African parks - a true wilderness experience!

Flights are on a shared charter basis and in this suggested itinerary start and end in Arusha but you can combine this with the coast and islands and other southern parks flying back via Ruaha and Dar es Salaam if you prefer.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
£

  £50 to £150
