About Katuma Bush Lodge

  • Close Panel

Located in the centre of Katavi National Park, on an elevated point over looking the vast plains of Katisunga, It is built against a backdrop of tamarind and acacia forest. Katuma Bush Lodge consists of 10 spacious and comfortably furnished tents, each with writing desks, lamps, bedside tables, wardrobe and fine linen. All tents have ensuite facilities with glassed-in shower, flush toilet and hot and cold water. The tents are set on raised decks and each features a veranda with chairs and table, where guests can enjoy views across the plains and their resident herds of wildlife. The lodge has been designed to blend in with its surroundings to avoid distracting from the beauty of Katavi.

Game Viewing is exceptionally rewarding at Katavi due to the sheer abundance of wildlife, and begins early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Game drives are in 4 X 4 vehicles centring around the woodland areas along the seasonal lakes, where most of the game can be found including the big cats. Guests can also take part in short guided walking safaris led by an armed ranger, leaving camp in the late afternoon when the light is at its best.

Katavi boasts Tanzania's largest population of crocodiles and hippos, while lion and leopard find prey among the huge population of herbivores - impala, eland, topi, zebra and herds of buffalo up to 1600 strong. The rare, honey coloured puku antelope is one of the park's richest wildlife viewing rewards. The park's main geographical features are the watery grass plains to the north, the palm-fringed Lake Chada to the south east and the Katuma River. These areas are particularly rich in wildlife.

Meals are served either in the open-sided thatched lounge/dining area, with panoramic views of the Katisunga floodplains, or around the campfire. Breakfast consists of fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and toast. Cooked food is also served. Fresh fruit juice, tea and coffee accompany the meal. Lunch can be taken at the camp or as a picnic when out exploring. Sundowners are served by the campfire each evening. Dinner is a 3-course meal and on the last night guests can enjoy a barbecue around the fire. Between game viewing activities guests can relax in the lounge, on the sundeck in front of the lounge or on their own veranda.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

  • Open Panel

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.

For each accommodation on this website you will find an indication of the price. The bands are based on the price per person per night at peak season and are represented by the following values for this country:
