This attractive park just outside Arusha is a hidden gem in northern Tanzania's parks. Whilst most visitors flock to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, you can actually enjoy relatively quiet game viewing in Arusha National Park, with its stunning backdrop of Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.

Part of the Zanzibar archipelago, Chumbe Island is just a short boat journey from Zanzibar's mainland and is a small island set in a marine park.

Gombe Stream National Park is well known due to the pioneering research into chimps by Dr Jane Goodall, and offers some great chimp experiences.

A remote and wild small national park, teaming with game and away from the tourist crowds. Excellent wildlife watching for experienced Africa addicts!

Lake Manyara National Park in northern Tanzania is home to flamingoes, elephants, and even tree-climbing lions.

Lake Victoria is the biggest freshwater lake in Africa and forms a natural boundary between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. At over 67,000 sq kms, it is twice the size of Wales. Famously the source of the mighty River Nile in Uganda which takes the waters of Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean, Lake Victoria is known locally as Nyanza.

Mafia Island is an island 160km south of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Mafia is a perfect island for anyone wanting to escape and stay away from crowds, with rustic comfortable accommodation, great food, friendly people and fantastic diving and snorkelling.

This is an amazing place to see some of Africa's last remaining wild chimpanzees. There are roughly 1000 individuals, and they have been habituated to humans, so you are able to track them and sometimes get surprisingly close.

One of the largest and most easily accessible of Tanzania's parks but with relatively little tourist traffic! The highway runs through the park and there are a handful of lodges and private camps.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the crown of Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa.

Mount Meru (4,566 metres) is an active volcano situated 70 kilometres west of Mount Kilimanjaro. Though it is small in comparison with Kilimanjaro, Meru is equally spectacular, with slopes that rise up at incredibly steep angles. It is the second highest peak in Tanzania.

The focus of this famous Conservation Area is the immense volcanic Ngorongoro Crater which is about 16 miles in diameter, and home to a profusion of wildlife.

Pemba Island is north of Zanzibar, and much quieter and less-visited than its more famous neighbour. Visitors come to enjoy the pristine white sand beaches, fantastic coral reef diving, sailing and fishing.

A remote and beautiful park in southern Tanzania, combines well with Selous Game Reserve and daily connecting flights to the coast.

Saadani National Park, north of Dar es Salaam, is in the unique position of providing the opportunity to observe Africa's big game and bird life interacting with the sea.

The Selous is Tanzania's largest game reserve; in fact it is the largest in Africa and holds UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

The vast Serengeti Plains are perhaps the highlight of a Tanzanian safari. Here you will see herds of zebra, wildebeest and gazelle, large numbers of giraffe, buffalo and warthog, and of course the big cats - lion, cheetah and leopard.

The coast of Tanzania has a fascinating array of old settlements and historical trading ports with links to the off shore islands and great beaches.

Tarangire is easily accessed from Arusha and provides excellent game viewing particularly large herds of elephants.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a stunning forested area in the Eastern Arc mountains of Southern Tanzania - perfect for hiking and birding watching.

A remote wilderness area of Masailands bordering Amboseli in Kenya with great views of Kilimanjaro.
