Best time

The short rains come to Zanzibar in about November and December; the long rains are here from March to about May/early June. So the high seasons are from around June to October and January and February.

Getting there

Flights will cost from £450-£800 ($790-$1400) depending on season and availability (about £600 ($1050) is most usual).

Itinerary

Duration: Any duration

Day 1:
Arrive in Zanzibar. Transfer to your beach hotel for the start of your relaxing holiday. (D)
Days 2-3:
Relaxing on the beach. (Half Board for all resorts except Matemwe and Chumbe, which only offer Full Board).
Day 4:
Morning spice tour on the way back from your chosen beach resort. Overnight in a Stone Town hotel. (B)
Day 5:
Transfer back to Zanzibar airport for your flight out. (B)

Other optional excursions available in Zanzibar include a day tour to see the dolphins, Jozani Forest, Prison Island and Stone Town tours.

Pricing guidelines for Tanzania

We hope the following will give you a rough idea of costs. These are quoted per person based on twin share for two people, without international flights but including internal flights. We’ve used good standard accommodation throughout. There are nearly always ways to spend more money than we’ve suggested (!), but these prices show a good and realistic range for each type of trip.

International flights will add from about £600 to £800 depending on the season and route (unless the airlines have special offers). Tanzania can combine easily with other East African countries.
